1. Wi-Fi Protected Setup(WPS) method:-This method is also named as Push N Connect method. Reason stated for this is by just pressing a button (which is WPS button) user becomes able to connect his/her extender with network router.
This Push N Connect feature makes this method much easier than that of manual method, in which user need to manually perform various steps to establish connection between router and extender.
But before proceeding with WPS method, user must have to ensure that his/her router is WPS enabled.
After ensuring the same, next step include:
By this Router Link LED will get lit up. This indicates that your extender and router has got connected.
Now you can place it at a spot where you want to end the issue of dead spots, with the help of Router Link LED.
Once finding adequate position to place this newly setup extender, power on it.
Once the extender device gets powered on, you can connect any client device to the extender’s network.
For this go to available wireless networks list which you can manage to get by going to Wireless Network Manager. Then do select a network named same as your home network but having _EXT along with the name.
Once you select the network, you will be asked to enter the password. Here you will be required to password same as your home network has.
That’s it. Your client device gets connected with extender’s network.
What if you want to change credentials for your extender?
In that case you will be required to login www.mywifiext.net setup page.
To login local webpage, you will be required to enter credentials which are:
Then select Setup option and then Wireless Setting.
Here you can change various wireless settings of your extender. Once you are done with it, do hit on Apply button.
By this, link between your client device and extender network will get lost. This is because of changed wireless settings. To re-establish the link, you will be required to connect with extender network using new settings that you had made.
2. Manual method: - There are many names by which we usually call this method such as www.mywifiext.net setup wizard, NETGEAR setup wizard, NETGEAR Genie setup and so on.
This method has one major advantage over WPS method and that is this method can be used in all type of setups.
In this method firstly you need to establish link between extender and any client device such as computer or laptop.
This link can be established either by using Ethernet cable i.e. by wired mode or by Wi-Fi signal that is by wireless mode.
Once link gets established successfully, do launch web browser on your client device.
By this you will be prompted to local webpage of NETGEAR. But if in any case it does not happen, then you will be needed to enter www.mywifiext.net in the address bar of the browser.
You can also use IP address i.e. 192.168.1.250 to launch www.mywifiext.net setup page.
Then you will be asked to enter credentials to login which are:-
Username to login admin
Password to login password
By this NETGEAR genie will get launched.
Now click on New extender setup.
Then follow simple steps that get displayed on your screen and that’s it. Your new extender setup gets completed.
